Nature was an integral part of the celtic belief system, plants were honoured as teachers and gifts of magic. The celts believed that everything contained a life force and seen magic in all things they found in their environment.
Below you will find various herbs, shrubs, flowers and trees and their meanings in folklore. They have been split up into alphabetical order just to make life that little bit easier but as this section grows they will be allocated to their own letter.

Often used to detect the fertility of soil it is used for spells that require detection or preserving things as its berries were used to make jam.
Reed Reed The reed symbolizes flexibility, rapid growth and expansion. Its stalks can also be used for making flutes. It is good for music, growth and expansion.
Rose Rose With its beautiful flowers and its deadly thorns this is another plant which symbolizes deadly beauty. It is used for glamours, enchantments and love potions.

Rue

As the name suggests this plant governs sadness and sorrow. It is used to create depression but can also be used to help banish it.
